The reasons for the strike of 16 December

The transport strike in Rome is part of the general strike proclaimed by the CGIL and UIL (without the CISL) after the evaluation of the economic maneuver launched by the Government. “While appreciating the effort and commitment of Premier Draghi and his Executive”, the trade unions write, the maneuver was considered unsatisfactory by both trade unions, in particular in terms of taxation, pensions, schools, industrial policies and the contrast to relocations, the contrast to the precariousness of work especially of young people and women, of non self-sufficiency, all the more in light of the resources, available at this stage, which would have allowed a more effective redistribution of wealth, to reduce inequalities and to generate balanced and structural development and stable employment ”. Hence the general strike, with a national demonstration in Rome. Net of adhesions, for the capital and for its transport, it could therefore be a black Thursday.
