Federal police hardly register any violations of entry rules

Last year, the Federal Police checked more than 25 million travelers to see whether they met the requirements of the Corona Entry Ordinance. A spokesman said that each of these travelers had been checked whether the digital entry registration had been filled out completely and correctly, and the officials had checked evidence such as test results, vaccination or recovery records. Only about 226,000 travelers – that is around 0.9 percent – gave cause for complaint. In around 190,000 cases, reports of administrative offenses were sent to the responsible fine authorities in the federal states. According to the information, there were significant differences depending on the means of transport. While almost every thousandth traveler at airports received negative feedback, almost every twentieth traveler (4.8 percent) had something to complain about during controls at the land border.

Associations criticize the implementation of the “Corona catch-up program” in schools

Education and teacher associations draw a critical balance of the so-called Corona catch-up program for schoolchildren. The education and science union said the measure was not working as planned. Chairwoman Maike Finnern said that many of the offers did not reach the children who needed the most support, but rather those “whose parents take care of it”. She explained this with the fact that measures are not “docked” in the school system. Funds flowed into extracurricular support measures and thus failed to make a contribution to equal opportunities. The Association for Education and Upbringing criticizes the schools for not having enough staff to implement the funding program. The German Teachers’ Association made a similar statement. The “Catching up after Corona” program was launched in June. It has a volume of two billion euros.

Nationwide seven-day incidence of new infections increased slightly

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has reported 12,515 new corona infections nationwide. That is 2,415 more cases than on Sunday a week ago. The nationwide seven-day incidence rose to 222.7 from 220.3 the previous day. The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have been infected with the corona virus in the past seven days. 46 other people in Germany died in connection with the virus. The RKI points out that fewer tests will be carried out at the turn of the year and therefore fewer cases will probably be reported. The comparative figures from a week ago are also only partially meaningful due to the Christmas holidays.

Corona incidence in Schleswig-Holstein rises to 233.8

The corona incidence in Schleswig-Holstein rose again to a high after the turn of the year. According to the state registration office, the number of new infections recorded per 100,000 inhabitants climbed to 233.8 within seven days (as of Saturday evening). The previous day it was 224 and on Thursday it was 209.3. 646 new infections were registered, 383 more than a week ago. Experts and politicians had pointed out that the official corona numbers are currently only partially meaningful and rather too low due to the delay in testing and reporting.
