Didier Raoult heard by the disciplinary chamber of the order of physicians

He is the target of two complaints from his peers for breaches of the code of ethics. The controversial Professor Didier Raoult, champion of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment against Covid-19, must be heard on Friday, November 5 in the morning by the disciplinary chamber of the New Aquitaine order of physicians in Bordeaux.

This chamber, chaired by an administrative magistrate, may take sanctions ranging from a simple warning to delisting. Its decision will be known between two weeks and eight weeks after the hearing.

Regardless of this decision, it was already established that Didier Raoult, retired as a university professor and hospital practitioner, should leave the head of the University Hospital Institute for Infectious Diseases of Marseille (IHU Méditerranée Infection), which he headed since 2011, by the end of June at the latest.

Promotion de l’hydroxychloroquine

In the fall of 2020, the departmental council of the order of doctors of Bouches-du-Rhône had taken legal action against the professor. He criticized him for several breaches of the code of ethics related in particular to the promotion of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment against Covid-19, despite the lack of proven effect even today.

Several studies carried out by the IHU to support the interest of this treatment have been sharply criticized by many scientists for their methodology and their conditions of realization.

The National Council of the Order of Physicians (CNOM) had joined in these lawsuits, in turn filing a complaint at the end of December.

For mee Fabrice Di Vizio, who defends Didier Raoult, the plaintiffs denounce “General communication”, the file does not contain, according to them, any words “Precise, factual, dated” showing that the Marseille professor “Discredit the profession”.

The Bordeaux court, where the case was disoriented, must also examine a third complaint, this time lodged by the Marseille professor himself against the vice-president of the Bouches-du-Rhône medical order, the Dr Guillaume Gorincour, for “Non-confraternity”. Didier Raoult criticizes this doctor in charge of ethics within the body, about fifty denigrating tweets, posted throughout the year 2020.

Charges of illegal testing

The infectious disease specialist and the Marseille IHU have acquired a vast and controversial notoriety with the Covid-19 pandemic, by promoting a treatment based on hydroxychloroquine in order to fight against the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. Several studies have been carried out by the IHU to confirm the interest of this treatment, but they have been criticized by many scientists as to their methodology and their conditions. More recently, Mr. Raoult has been criticized for advertising a Brazilian study defending a treatment with hydroxycholoroquine, when these trials then caused a wide scandal for having been carried out on patients without their consent, and for giving rise to the publication of truncated results.

Since the end of October, the IHU and its director have also been accused of having led since 2017 of alleged ” clinical tests “ drugs against tuberculosis, causing serious complications in several patients, including a 17-year-old. These trials had been carried out despite the refusal of the ANSM, the National Medicines Safety Agency, which must give its approval to research requiring experiments on human beings, in particular clinical trials of drugs. The IHU of Marseille and its director deny these accusations.
