WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Rick and Morty Season 5, Episode 10, “Rickmurai Jack,” which aired Sunday on Adult Swim, and Loki Season 1, Episode 6, “For All Time. Always,” which is out now. see on Disney +.
The final episode of the fifth season ofRick and morty unlock an infinite number of alternate dimensions, abandoning the strict path imposed by an egomaniac who plays God. If that sounds like you, it’s because Loki does the exact same thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means that both series have potentially spawned a Multiverse of Insanity.
“Rickmurai Jack” reveals that all the Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, voiced by series co-creator Justin Roiland, have been living in the Finite Central Curve, which separates all the dimensions in which Rick is the most intelligent being. of the universe of the rest. On Loki, the Temporal Variation Authority (TVA) maintains the Sacred Timeline dictated by The One Who Remains of Jonathan Majors, hunting down anyone from any universe who deviates from the path he sets.
Rick and Morty: Evil Morty gets the final victory
Rick and Morty has a dark feminist twist on Captain Planet
In the mind of The One Who Remains, he is acting altruistically, as he seeks to prevent a second Multiversal War caused by evil “variants” of himself. Rick from Dimension C-137 has no such excuse, as he has helped his other selves create a pocket of reality in which they are dominant. They even come up with a hideous variety of methods to conceive versions of their grandson Morty, just so everyone has a partner.
Thus, the destruction caused by Evil Morty from the first season of Rick and morty it’s because all versions of him have lived “in an infinite crib built around an infinite fucking baby.” His body count rivals that of any Rick, but he believes that what really makes him “evil” in Rick’s eyes is his desire to break free from his abusive fate. Although it requires the deaths of countless Mortys, the Evil Morty does not hesitate to destroy the Finite Central Curve, exiting the episode by entering a dimension that he hopes is not subject to Rick’s omnipotence.
This stubborn pursuit of free will is reflected in Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, a female variant of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Having fled the TVA since her childhood, she is determined to eradicate it and whoever pulls its strings. Finding the one who remains in episode 6 of the first season, “For All Time. Forever”, he finally manages to kill him, but his warning that doing so would unleash his evil variants falls on deaf ears.
The result is that one or more variants of The One Who Remains, better known as Kang the Conqueror, will appear in the next Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It is logical then that the script of the film is by Jeff Loveness, author of “Rickmurai Jack” and other episodes of Rick and morty. After unlocking a fictional multiverse, it will be interesting to see how you describe the consequences of another opening wide.
As to Rick and morty, the elimination of the Finite Central Curve dethrons all the Ricks that have been placed above all the others, and it is entirely possible that something worse will replace them. By finding peace, the evil Morty has potentially unleashed a whole host of new enemies that everyone else must face, like Sylvie. While The One Who Left feared his variants, Rick’s greatest threat is no longer himself, but those who are the most intelligent beings in their universes instead of him.
In summary, Rick and morty has adopted an approach similar to that of Loki when it comes to unleashing the multiverse, even casting Evil Morty in the vengeful role of Sylvie. Hopefully, just as one series has opened the door to a variety of new storylines in the MCU, the other has further expanded its incredibly wide canvas, ensuring that it stays fresh for several seasons yet.
