- Samara Weaving interpreta a Jessica Chandler en la serie de Hulu “Nine Perfect Strangers”.
- Her co-stars didn’t recognize her when she first transformed into her character, she told Digital Spy.
- “My phone wouldn’t open when I saw my face,” Weaving said.
The first day Samara Weaving entered the set of “Nine Perfect Strangers” dressed as Jessica Chandler, her appearance was so different that her companions had no idea who she was.
During an interview with Digital Spy, the 29-year-old Australian actress detailed the extensive process she underwent to transform herself into the lottery winner and influencer for the adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s 2018 novel from Hulu.
“When we did the camera tests, the first day of filming, I had a lot of fake tan and very long nails,” he said. “And I had a wire pulling my face up that gave me that face-lift look, and fake teeth.”
This drastic makeover caused confusion on the set of “Nine Perfect Strangers.”
«Nobody recognized me. My phone wouldn’t open when I saw my face, ”he recalls. «Regina [Hall] he didn’t recognize me at all. It said, ‘Who is that?’
This character made Samara Weaving notice how people usually judge based on your appearance.
In the David E. Kelley series, Jessica checks into Tranquillum House, a holistic wellness retreat, with her husband (Melvin Gregg) in hopes of revitalizing their marriage. It quickly becomes clear that Jessica has body dysmorphia, and is overwhelmed by insecurities, both related to herself and to her relationship.
For Weaving, becoming physically Jessica made him empathize with the character. It also made him consider the extent to which people judge others based on how they look.
“Everyone’s reaction and behavior changed because of my appearance, even though they knew it wasn’t Jessica,” Weaving told Digital Spy. “That helped me, because it was very interesting to see how others perceived her and to use that, you feel exposed.”
In addition, she added that working with production companies – such as Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Moriarty – made her feel comfortable throughout the eight-episode project.
«I felt very cared for and seen, especially playing someone who wears quite risky clothes. I also had these big fake breasts and buttocks, and being surrounded by women, I felt very safe, “she said.
Days after the premiere of the first three episodes, on August 18, Weaving shared a behind-the-scenes video of his first day of filming with Gregg.
And in the caption, she thanked makeup artist Sian Howard and hairstylist Chrissy Zemura for turning her into Jessica.
“I still have false teeth if someone wants to borrow them for Halloween,” Weaving joked.
The first four episodes of “Nine Perfect Strangers” are available on Hulu, with new episodes posted weekly.
