Oliver Onions: guide to listening to the new album, “FUTURE MEMORABILIA”, song by song

He’s out Friday 29 October FUTURE MEMORABILIA, new album by the historic duo of Oliver Onions. Ten songs remained in the collective imagination of all revisited with new arrangements and the presence of exceptional guests.

When they call us a milestone in Italian musical history, it seems like a huge compliment to us. What is certain is that, in our 50-year career, we have combined quite a lot.

We have been arrangers, session men, composers, performers, producers.

We reached audiences through films, television dramas, radio and cartoons.

We traveled through the international rankings with Santamaria, Orzowei, Christine. We have been M&G Orchestra, Dilly Dilly, Oliver Onions. But, above all, we were Guido and Maurizio De Angelis: always, in all respects.

We put a piece of ourselves into every note of our music, an investment that returns us in energy and adrenaline every time we hit a stage.

That’s why, after getting involved with our two live projects: Reunion Live and… we continue to call them Oliver Onions, we decided to return to the record market with FUTURE MEMORABILIA.

With these words Guido e Maurizio De Angelis, the Oliver Onions, tell about this new recording project. Let’s find out together, song by song.

OLIVER ONIONS FUTURE MEMORABILIA: Track By track

DUNE BUGGY (FROM THE FUTURE)

A real cult with a 2.0 sound that indicates the direction of the whole album, generating a big bang between vintage and modern sounds thanks to the contrast between valve amplifiers, clavinet, rhodes, synths and an enveloping and futuristic sound design.

BULLDOZER #63

The race of Bud Spencer during the legendary football match it was imagined as an arcade videogame, putting great care into 8-bit sound research, using arpeggiators and synthesizers from the 80s; the performance is energetic and highlights a kaleidoscope of stylish musical virtuosity. The sound Oliver Onions seamlessly integrates vintage drum machines and vocoders with iconic guitars and choirs.

ORZOWEI FEAT. THOMAS PARADISE

A modern metropolitan jungle that hosts tribal sounds for the new one Orzowei, which catapults the listener into a stereophonic and engaging world, thanks to ethereal sound textures that leave room for an overwhelming rhythm. The guest perfectly embodies the role of the new hero who, singing the choruses out loud, contaminates this real hymn in full indie style.

SANDOKAN FEAT. CLAUDIO BAGLIONI

The Malaysian tiger returns in a big way with the introduction of Tina Guo (solo cellist of Hans room and present in the soundtrack of some films such as Pirates of the Caribbean e Wonder Woman), immediately enveloping the listener in a compelling atmosphere thanks to a large orchestra contrasted with the cinematic sound of the great colossals.

The dress is sophisticated and of great impact, in perfect style Baglioni, which finds its natural habitat to enhance its singing skills. A modern symphonic rock that confirms the epic character of the song.

FLYING THROUGH THE AIR (50TH ANNIVERSARY)

The song is dressed in a very bold uniform, becoming a real game of roles: a marching band and a wind ensemble, to recreate the typical sound of American military bands, march together with a solid rhythm with hip hop and nu -soul. A combination that literally makes you want to fly.

BANANA JOE FEAT. BUD SPENCER

A real miracle of restoration: with the help of new latest generation software it was possible to make a duet Bud Spencer they Oliver Onions after 40 years. This mix was made possible by aligning the original tape of the only take sung by Bud to the digital base built ad hoc for the occasion, integrating typically Caribbean elements to the synthetic and modern rhythm of Latin American productions.

SANTA MARIA MEMORABILIA FEAT. ROLAND KAISER

The song has been completely refreshed aiming at an essential, decisive arrangement with a tropical flavor, keeping its soul and obtaining a sound with an international breath.

Dry, well-tuned acoustic guitars, large synth openings in the choruses, and the trademark of Oliver Onions: the timeless catchphrase sung by the choirs. Roland Kaiser has finally come full circle, duet with the authors who made him famous all over the world thanks to his 1980 version.

LA LA LA LA LALLA FEAT. HELIUS AND THE TENSE STORIES (CHORUS OF THE FIREFIGHTERS)

The most famous la la la la lalla in the history of cinema, the Choir of Firefighters of… otherwise we’ll get angry! in an unprecedented guise that ventures into the most disparate musical styles as per the tradition of Elio and Le Storie Tese, mixing sweet melodies, epic rock openings and Rossinian panoramas. A virtuous and iconic result, which creates a perfect setting to pay homage to this unmissable reunion.

SHERIFF FEAT. DAVID HASSELHOFF

A tribute to the 80s, which features all the instruments that characterized the discography of the time, with the great presence of synthesizers, drums with abundant reverbs, solid rock guitars that host the historic Gibson The Paul played with the bottleneck with the which the original theme was engraved. Exceptional actor, singer and showman, David Hasselhoff fully represents an icon of the big screen, helping to give the song an overseas flavor.

WE BELIEVE IN LOVE FEAT. ELHAIDA DANI

A song with a solemn atmosphere but at the same time epic and magical, which arises from the need to unite all the people of the Earth through a melody that has captured the whole world for its strength – that of Verde. Like a great hymn sung by many souls in a stadium, which speaks to several generations of the past, present and future.

Elhaida Dani, with her interpretation, she becomes an ambassador of this great message of love.

We would love to give thanks to the writer of this article for this awesome material
