Lupita Nyong’o Becomes X-Men’s Storm In Amazing Met Gala Inspired Art

Lupita Nyong’o’s Met Gala outfit turned heads on the red carpet and has now paved the way for fan art that turns her into the X-Men’s Storm.

Lupita Nyong’o makes a stunning Storm in new X-Men fan art inspired by the actress’ latest Met Gala look. Of all the many X-Men from over the years, Storm is undoubtedly one of the most popular. The weather-controlling mutant was first created in 1975 and has since been brought to the big screen by two actresses. Halle Berry played Storm for the original X-Men movies, while Alexandra Shipp took over the role when the franchise shifted to an earlier generation. With the MCU expected to introduce mutants in the coming years, many wonder if Storm could be one of the characters to making their MCU debuts.

Nyong’o, meanwhile, is no stranger to the Marvel universe. The Oscar-winning actress plays Nakia in the MCU, a role she first portrayed in 2018’s Black Panther. She’s currently filming the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is slated for release in July of next year. The movie is a subject of much interest among fans, as it will be the first without lead actor Chadwick Boseman. Boseman passed away last year, and Black Panther 2 was then reshaped to honor his legacy.

Nyong’o is known for her impeccable red carpet style, which made her one of the most eagerly anticipated Met Gala attendees this year. On Monday night, Nyong’o debuted a denim-inspired look that inadvertently inspired another design. Graphic artist BossLogic took her Met Gala outfit and gave it an X-Men twist in a piece that turns Nyong’o into Storm. She radiates power, and not just because of the lightning she wields. For some time now, fans have speculated that Storm could be introduced in Black Panther 2. Celebs like Janelle Monáe and Beyoncé have been popular picks for the role online, though the actual cast list for the movie could already have a Storm picked out. I May Destroy You‘s Michaela Coel joined Black Panther 2 back in July, and the internet was quickly alight with the idea that she could be the MCU’s Storm. Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, but it feels like a possibility.

While Coel would undoubtedly make a great Storm, the above art really makes a case for Nyong’o slipping into the role. Of course, as she is already playing Nakia, it’s more likely that she will interact with Storm. Marvel has remained tight-lipped about their plans for the X-Men, but they could become clearer in the coming months. In fact, if Storm really does make her debut in Black Panther 2, the door would be pushed wide open for other mutants to arrive. Fans will just have to wait and see what Marvel has in store.
