Orange comes with its ‘own’ range of smart home gadgets

Telecom company Orange Belgium has introduced a smart home portfolio. It concerns three different packs of gadgets for a smarter home, supplemented with a new smartphone app to control the equipment.

The so-called Orange Smart Home range is built around three categories of smart devices: lamps, cameras and power plugs. These are products from manufacturer Konyks, which are being distributed in Belgium in this way for the first time. Previously, Orange customers could already purchase a number of Google gadgets from the operator, often with a discount. This mainly concerns the Nest Mini speaker, the Nest Hub photo display and the Chromecast media player.

The new bundles are called Smart Comfort, Smart Relax and Smart Security. The Comfort pack consists of a Google Nest Mini, a smart plug and a Konyks lamp. The normal price of the set is above one hundred euros, Orange customers pay 54.90 euros. Smart Relax combines a Nest Mini with a Chromecast, which can be purchased for 49 euros (instead of 98 euros). Finally, the Smart Security bundle includes a Google Nest Hub and a Konyks surveillance camera. Instead of almost 150 euros, Orange customers pay 89.95 euros for this set. All products can also be purchased separately.

The operator developed the Orange Smart Home app for Android and iOS especially for the new bundles. This should make it possible to define complete scenarios, such as ‘Turn off the sockets when I leave the house’ or ‘Put the camera in privacy mode when I am at home’. Many functions can also be controlled by voice, for example via the Google Assistant. The app is also compatible with any device that uses Tuya’s AIoT platform, ranging from connected doorbells to smart refrigerators, according to Orange.

The offer with price discounts applies to new Orange customers, but also to existing customers who have subscribed for 12 months.
