Australian actor Brendan Cowell shares new details about ‘glorious’ Avatar sequel as production ramps up on the long-awaited blockbuster
It was 2009 when James Cameron’s record-breaking blockbuster Avatar hit theatres – and now, 12 years later, the sequel is only just around the corner.
Australian actor Brendan Cowell is starring in the next entry of the science-fiction franchise, which is currently filming in Wellington, New Zealand.
Cowell, 45, who has starred in notable Australian films such as Beneath Hill 60 and I Love You Too, has revealed some details behind the secretive project in an interview with Stellar.

‘I can say I play a character who is on the water. Yes, we shot in New Zealand. Yes, James Cameron is directing it. Yes, I worked with Jemaine Clement,’ he confessed.
‘It’s really something special; (James Cameron is) really something special. And from what I’ve seen, which is not a lot, it’s glorious,’ Cowell added.
He will be joined by returning lead actor and fellow Aussie Sam Worthington, who will be reprising his role as Jake Sully.

Zoe Saldana will be back as Neytiri, as is Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge.
Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco and Michelle Yeoh are also set to star.
Cowell has been credited as playing Captain Mick Scoresby, the ‘head of a private sector marine hunting vessel on the planet of Pandora.’

The Love My Way star explained that he was more than thrilled for when audiences will finally get the chance to see the highly-anticipated sequel.
‘The fact cinemas could open… it could be such a gift to the world, of this enormous visual and emotional spectacular,’ he said.
Avatar 2 is scheduled for release in December 2022.
Three more sequels in the franchise are also in the works.
